They’ve done a lot to build their community, and it’s showing based on the fact that they’re quite active. Unfortunately for anyone who would prefer less homogeneity in their content, they’re the biggest in the libre space. There are other big instances that probably dwarf wolfballs, but you need to tread carefully there.

To an extent, you can see why websites like reddit ended up implementing algorithms, to help prevent major communities from totally drowning out smaller ones.

The only way to keep growing individual instances and the network thereby rather than just growing one instance or another is to keep posting stuff and interacting with stuff. I consider lemmy/lotide to be separate from mastodon and all even if they’re compatible because the communications paradigm of sharing stories and commenting on them is so different, and I’m glad to see people like @realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city out there continuously working to add meat and potatoes content to this corner of the fediverse.

I’m pulling for any instances that can be tolerant of different viewpoints while bringing different perspectives and especially different topics of conversation to this corner of things. I think even the most ardent fan of “sports for pretentious people”(Politics) eventually want to talk about something else.

This is an instance for freedom fighters. Most of the larger instances are diametrically opposed to our values. If I wanted to get a communist perspective, I’d browse reddit.com. Also, the lemmy fediverse does not have a large population. I’m looking for quality over quantity. Check your ‘All’ feed now, I’m trying to do some housekeeping and adding more instances.

Hello, masterofballs here.

You don’t need more instances. Most instances have less than four active users.

You need more users.

If there is someone from freeforum you don’t like I suggest you block them or the whole community. Do you know how to block communities?

This is absolutely a must if you use Lemmy. Its so easy for one community to drown out a instance. Look at all over at Lemmy.ml its basically only genzedong.

You can also block a community at the instance level. Perhaps alt tech at wolfballs would still be interesting to use but freeforum is to much. Its there for users who dont like censorship. So the content will be edgy. If you guys want a setting to limit a single community from drowning the all category consider opening a issue over at github. I could help implement it if you can describe how you would like it to work and the two main Lemmy devs agree it will be useful…

lol wut don’t you like about posts over there? It’s just conservative leaning, a lot of us like freedom (or like anarcho-capitalism, dunno if any ancaps are here)

also wolfballs instances list or exploding-heads.com might have some instances to federate with

wolfballs and exploding-heads are the only instances I’ve found worth federating to, but I haven’t looked at every single instance out there either.

Just block freeforum and Wolfballs turns in to a low activity general server.

Also, isn’t linking just someone on the instance subscribing to somebody on a different instance?
